An indefinite protest like Shaheen Bagh stir of Delhi against CAA and NRC will be started near the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar on Jalandhar Bypass here from Wednesday.

Members of the Muslim community have staged multiple protests against the BJP-led Central Government, demanding cancellation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

While addressing media persons here today, Shahi Imam of Punjab Maulana Habib Ur Rehmam Sani Ludhianvi said they conducted a meeting with the leaders of various religious and social organisations of the city and decided to hold a protest like the Shaheen Bagh stir against CAA and NRC from February 12 here.

Shahi Imam said the site on the Jalandhar bypass was chosen to stage the protest as the statue of Baba Sahib Dr BR Ambedkar, creator of the Constitution of India, is located there. This daily demonstration will be started after prayers by members from all religions.

He said the CAA, NRC and NPR were against the spirit of the Constitution a conspiracy by the BJP-led central government to divide the country.

He said it was necessary to start a daily demonstration here like that at the Shaheen Bagh in Delhi, because the first fatwa of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian and Dalit unity was issued for the complete independence of India against the British in the freedom struggle of the country from Ludhiana. It was given by Shah Abdul Qadir Ludhianvi, one of his ancestors.

He said committees had been constituted to run this daily demonstration smoothly. The committees included a managing committee, a synergy committee, a security committee and a press committee, he added.

Our protest is against CAA, NRC and NRP. The protests will continue from 10 am to 10 pm daily. Before starting the protests, people from different religions will offer prayers daily. The protests will be marked in a peaceful manner. No traffic movement will be affected during the protests. The people of all religions had earlier jointly fought for the freedom of the country. Now, the people of all religions should stay united to save the Constitution.
