With millions of people able to acquire an abundance of technologies that require energy and water to function – at a time when both are increasingly scarce –it is essential for new devices to consume as few natural resources as possible.

Similarly, many modern appliances, such as toasters, are designed to use less energy than their predecessors. But if we keep it plugged in after breakfast, it will continue to consume energy, even when it’s not toasting anything. (This is also known as vampire power.) In May, the Natural Resources Defense Council reported this standby power consumption costs Americans $19 billion every year. That’s more than half the $30 billion required to feed all of the world’s hungry.

For example, Air conditioners use a lot of electricity. This creates both financial disadvantages for the people who have to pay for the power, and more generalized environmental disadvantages caused by power production. Because a large percentage of electricity is created by coal-burning power plants, air conditioning contributes indirectly to the release of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. In addition, according to The Independent, spending too much time in an air-conditioned environment can contribute to health

problems such as asthma, tightness in the chest and other respiratory ailments.

CONCEPT OF ECO-FRIENDLY AND LOW-COST HYBRID AC

Green appliances are not only energy efficient but also eco-friendly. The problem is, many people are ignorant to just how much energy the air conditioners uses, or what kind of environmental impact their water habits might have.

The solution? Throughout this article, we’ll explain what green appliances are, whythey’re important to the environment, and how to find them. The end result will yield a money-saving, energy-efficient home that holds to your standards for an environmental-friendly lifestyle.

So, my aim was to develop a low-cost Eco-friendly hybrid ac that uses minimum electricity and, is green electronic gadget that is eco-friendly, more efficient and better performing than regular ac.

STRUCTURE DETAILS

We used mostly old things in the whole project to reduce its cost. Details are as following:

  • HEAT EXCHANGER UNIT– It is the mains part of our project. We used copper coils fitted in a bucket and passed cold water through it. At the opening of the bucket we joined a fan from an old table fan.
  • COOLING TOWER– We used jute ropes hanging in vertical position and made the water that was emerging from the copper coil to pass through them to increase the surface area

hence the rate of evaporation. This made the hot water coming out of the copper coils to cool.

  • SOLAR WATER HEATER– We used a solar water heater unit to heat the water from solar energy.

WORKING

Cold water when passed through copper coils made these coils very cool and hence making the air around copper coils chilled. Then the hot water coming out of the copper coils was passed to through the jute ropes to increase the evaporation and to decrease its temperature. And we reused the same water again using motors. For heating purpose, we used solar water heater to pass hot water through copper coils and hence making copper coils and air around it hotter .

RESULT

Project emerged out as a successful project. The lowest temperature we reached was 13.7 degree Celsius which was a great achievement.
