Lal Bagh garden is one of the prime tourist destinations in southern Bangalore. It houses different varieties of flora and fauna making it an ideal spot for nature lovers. The garden started its construction in the year 1760 by Haider Ali which was later finished by Tipu sultan. The place is one of the most visited tourist locations in Bangalore.

The Glasshouse

The major attraction of the entire garden is the Glasshouse which is the major hub for horticulture. The house architecture is often regarded to be inspired by that of Crystal Palace of London. The place is stunningly beautiful which also teaches the importance of horticulture in the present world.

The garden is open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM on weekdays. For joggers, the entry is free from morning 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the evenings. Fo the rest Rs 20 is charged for a nominal entrance fee. People come here irrespective of age and enjoy the pleasant environment.

The Flowers Show

Every year on Republic day and Independence day flower shows are conducted here. The shows are considered to be one of the most eye-pleasing affairs to witness in the city. These shows not only provide an extraordinary scenic viewing experience but also promotes awareness in children as well as commoners with regards to cultivation and conservation of plants and flowers. The entry fees for this particular shows is Rs 20 for adults and Rs 12 for children.

Spread over an area of more than 240 acres the place the garden also consists of a couple of lakes namely “Lotus Lake” and “Lal bagh Lake”. Apart from lakes, different species of birds such as Myna, Common Egret, Parakeets, and Pond Heron can be found here.

The Cultural Show

Apart from the Special shows, every weekend on the second and fourth of Saturday and Sunday the government of Karnataka organizes “Janapada Jaatre” to promote folk fair, folk dance, folk music and folk play. These are performed by troupes who come here from various parts of Karnataka donning different attires and jewellery.

The best part of the gardens is after the dusk where the lighting elevates the beauty of the glasshouse, making it a paradise of flowers complemented by stunning lightings.
